AC Transit is demonstrating the enhanced performance characteristics of fuel cell transit buses operating in daily passenger service, carrying over 130,000 passengers monthly and more than 1.1 million passengers to date. A fleet of 12 buses has logged in excess of 286,000 miles on transit serving Oakland, Berkeley, and surrounding communities in the San Francisco Bay Area.  A state-of-the-art hydrogen fueling station opened in August 2011 and has dispensed in excess of 23,000 kilograms of hydrogen from a combination of onsite solar electrolysis and gaseous hydrogen vaporized from liquid storage.
