Intelligent Energy is a global clean power systems company focused on the commercialisation of its proprietary fuel cell technologies. The company operates a partnering business model and its target markets include the automotive, stationary power, backup power, emergency power and consumer electronics sectors. The company’s partners include companies such as The Suzuki Motor Corporation and Scottish and Southern Energy plc , with whom Intelligent Energy has formed a joint venture company to address the distributed generation combined heat and power (CHP) market in the UK and Ireland. 

Intelligent Energy produced the world’s first purpose built fuel cell motorbike, the ENV and provided the fuel cell system to Boeing which powered the first manned fuel cell aircraft.

In March 2011, the Suzuki Burgman Fuel Cell Scooter, powered by Intelligent Energy fuel technology, became the first ever fuel cell vehicle to achieve European Whole Vehicle Type Approval. 

The company is currently also leading a program which will see the introduction of fuel cell hybrid powered London Black Cabs to London in 2012.
